Here's a bit about me. My name is Laura Belitz and I'm a native of Denver, Colorado. I've been teaching the 1st/2nd grade Highly Gifted class at Carson Elementary for the past 6 years. This is a more rewarding career than my last, which was in the telecom industry as a paralegal/contract manager. Now I get to spend my days with 6 and 7 year old children. It doesn't get much better than that! We work hard and we play hard! Ask any one of my students.
Being a native, I attended Denver Public Schools. I've been in the DPS system for quite a while now. I started at Bradley Elementary. Then, I was lucky enough to attend Holm Elementary the first year it opened. For Junior High, I attended Hamilton (yes we called it Junior High back in the old days, before personal computers and fax machines). ☺ And, last but not least, I attended Thomas Jefferson High School. Go Spartans! After a rather long stint in the corporate world, I went back to school to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science with a minor in Elementary Education at Metropolitan State College. From there, I went directly to the University of Colorado at Denver to earn a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. I didn't even stop to pass go and collect my $200.00. ☺
On a more personal level, I am very close to my family, especially my niece and nephew. My niece competes in gymnastics and my nephew competes in diving. As a result, I spend a lot of time at competitions and sporting events. Additionally, my puppy Ryley keeps me pretty busy. Who knew puppies were so much work! Besides these things, some of my favorite activities include reading, going for long walks with Ryley, spending time in the mountains, traveling to other countries as well as places right here in the U.S., playing with Ryley, and reading. (I thought Ryley and reading were deserving of two mentions.) ☺
Thank you for reading this little blurb about me. It's always nice to get to know a bit about your child's teacher besides the 'hi' and 'bye' in the hallway. ☺ We are off to a great start. It's going to be another great year! And, I feel blessed to spend my days with such great children!
